Jesus is alive

Jesus is alive

Jesus is alive, risen from the grave
With a blast of light the stone was rolled away
No more guilt or shame, death where is thy sting?
He’s the ruler over all, he has conquered everything

When darkness filled the sky
It seemed all hope was gone
Death could not crush his life
The Ever–Living-One!

He’s alive! And He’s here with us!
He’s alive! So very near to us!
He’s alive! Yes, he lives in us!
Jesus, fill us with your life!

Easter and Christmas have such a rich tradition of music to draw from, but every year I struggle
to be able to include both ancient songs, and brand new songs communicating the same ancient truth.
Just a few weeks before Easter of 2004, I gave up looking for a new song.  I just couldn't find any.
We had already done "Arise my love", Don Francisco's "He's alive", Third Day's "Thief"
Delirious "Did you feel the mountains tremble" ... recently and I just couldn't seem to find new one.
When a few of my music students called and canceled, I ended up with an unexpected pocket of time,
and thought I'd try writing a song, and this is the result.  We ended up teaching it to the congregation
and have sung it quite a few times since.
May the message of hope continue to ring out from generation to generation.

Psalm 79:13- "Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever;
from generation to generation we will recount your praise."
